We wish you all a relaxing and sunny summer!
During weeks 29-32 our production is closed for holiday and maintenance. At the sales and tranport departments a limited staff will be at your service to take care of deliveries to our customers.
It is time for the next step in the development of the Polykemi product range. We launch a new family of high performing plastic compounds called SCANREX. The premiere members are two PPA-compounds with 30 % and 50 % glass fibers called SCANREX PPA F125 F30 och SCANREX PPA F125 F50. The materials constitutes base grades in a class of materials, which has become a popular first stop for designers and engineers, faced with the task of replacing metal with plastics.
The new materials typically find use in mechanical components and automotive parts.
In mechanical applications the advantages of the materials are high wear resistance, dimensional stability, also in moist environments and in contact with oil, together with outstanding mechanical strength. Examples of specific parts where these properties are taken advantage of include ball joints bearings, gear wheels and hinges.
Within the automotive industry the material contributes to weight reduction by replacing metal in supporting constructions. In the engine compartment PPA can be found in component housings, air mass measuring valves, throttles and in fuel line connectors.
We have already noticed an interest for customer adapted materials also in this niche of the market. This also fit into the strategic direction of Polykemi to present additional high performing plastic compounds from the SCANREX-family in the time to come.
We look forward to meeting prospects and customers also in this new niche of the market.

The SCANFILL BIO material being based on the same concept but also being 100 % oil free will also have a given place in the stand. The materials are suitable for thermo forming, form blowing, film blowing and injection moulding processing.
Scanfill AB will also inform about the most recent investments made ao about the recently increased production capacity.
In addition the stand will mark the premiere of the new logotype and graphic profile of Scanfill AB
The focus on research and development has always been one of the corner stones for us. The development department is a strong contributing fact to our front edge in the business. Now we take yet another strong step in creating an even more effective research and development department.
The new improved development department is divided in two sections; one external and one internal section. The focus of the new internal development department is to create new materials and start up new development projects, without interfering with the ongoing work and sample material production in the external department.
This means that customers can get the material samples even quicker, while Polykemi’s R&D team can continue to focus on new development and innovation.
This increased focus required investments in new machinery, such as an extruding line, a injection moulding machine , a new tool for producing standardized test specimens and test plaques, and finally a dryer using vacuum technology.
– The size of the extruder enable us to produce of extensive series of smaller volumes with short lead times. The dryer is fast and effective which is required in order to conduct tests to the big series of samples we currently produce, states Mr Karl Banke, leading the work at Polykemi’s new internal development department.
One example of a development project placing Polykemi in front position is the POLYfill HC-family, a lighter and more cost effective alternative to more traditional construction plastics, with maintained mechanical properties.
Mr Karl Banke and the development manager Mr Henrik Eriksson are both very pleased with the outcome of this change.

Try our upgraded data sheet function by clicking on “Datasheets” in the top right corner – Now also in german language!
You have the possibility to cruise around amongst the appr. 500 official data sheets with processing parameters & SDS connected to the data base. You can filter by Products (material family), Generic symbols, Fillers and Features. As from now – also side by side comparisons of two or three different materials is possible.
Try out the new function “ADVANCED SEARCH” where you can search for maximum eight different technical parametrars – quite useful when for instance looking for a material within a specific interval of MFI, Flexural modulus & Charpy.
Polykemi is constantly developing new versions of our customer adapted compounds and thus our product range consist of many more materials than the ones in this data base, so if you do not find what you are looking for – please do contact your sales repr. and we will help you out. Finally despite comprehensive testing of the data base, “bugs” may occur, and if this should happen -thanks for sending an e-mail to Mr Karl Banke – all so we can extend and improve the data base even furtherly.

Our antistatic treated SCANBLEND PC/ASA keeps the dust away.
Dusty car interiors are never a pretty sight, and the fact is that if dust stays for too long on the surfaces, it tends to stick – being quite difficult to remove. Especially in corners and tight spots, it can be close to impossible to get rid of. Some plastic parts tends to attract dust, due to a charge of static electricity. This is since the insulative properties of the plastic do not allow electric charge to dissipate very quickly.
For this specific reason -one of the leading automotive producers in Europe have been using Polykemi´s anstistatic treated SCANBLEND PC/ASA in their premium models-actually already for some years in growing volumes. The material is used for especially sensitive & dust obvious parts – placed directly in the field of eye sight. Example of such parts are storage boxes for sun-glasses in the center roof console and make up mirrors in the sun visors..
New equipment (picture below) has been added to the Polykemi lab to measure the antistatic properties in accordance to PV 3977.

Our high performance – PP based 40% reinforced compound (POLYfill PPH GF5040HC) – a member of our POLYfill HC family is currently used for frames for sun visors in Mercedes – C-Class cars. The material is officially approved in accordance with MB “Werksnorm” DBL 5404.45 & is listed on the APS-list (from 10-40% GF content.)
The POLYfill HC family has been on the market for some time, but so far mainly it´s been the furniture industry that has realized that these materials can be a workable strong option in areas & applications where the technical properties before has called for solutions in glassfibre reinforecd PA6 & PBT´s.
Now also the automotive industry is becoming increasingly aware of the insight that profits can be made – in terms of cost reductions but also energy & weight savings (up to 25%)

Polykemi best raw material producer three times out of four!
We are really both proud and happy to received most votes from the > 150 members of SPIF & been awarded the price for 2014 in the category Best raw material producer again at the “Oscars of the Swedish plastics business” -formally called Swedish Plastics Industry Awards, that took place within the exhibition Plastteknik Nordic in Malmö last week. We also would like to give a hearty thank you for all nice & interesting visits to the Polykemi – Rondo stand!
Hugo Jönsson, the founder of Polykemi, has at an age of 83 years passed away. Hugo Jönsson was active and until the last day and visited daily his lifework Polykemi. Hugo was as senior advisor to the management well informed about the development and daily work at the company.
Hugo Jönsson was born in the village of Ingelstorp east of Ystad. He began his career at Persöner, the at the time largest company in Ystad. There he advanced to deputy manager of the textile recycling department. In his own book, My own story, which he wrote after his retirement, does he recount how he proposed for the management of Persöner to close the textile department and to grow in the field of plastics. The answer was a short no.
Hugo Jönsson didn’t give up his idea, borrowed money and founded Polykemi 1968. A few years later did the company expand outside the borders of Ystad and Sweden. Today Polykemi have approximately 250 employees with foreign subsidiaries in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany and China and with agents or distributors in 7 countries. The subsidiaries Rondo Plast (recycling) and Scanfill (packaging compounds) are both located in Ystad. The plant in China was opened in 2007 and Hugo Jönsson was instrumental in the process for establishing Polykemi in the Chinese market, as it was his conviction that it was necessary for Polykemi to be present there.
During the 70-ties did Polykemi enjoy a substantial positive growth. Despite a devastating fire in 1975 did Hugo Jönsson not give up and continued insistently the work on his lifework. Part of this was the venture into mineral reinforced PP in 1979, which turned out to be more complicated and expensive than calculated and which almost made the company go under. The breakthrough of POLYfill in 1982/1983 gave the company a long term financial stability. In the mid-80-ies did Hugo Jönsson invest in a customer friendly R&D department and this in combination with establishing of the foreign subsidiaries grew into a financially strong platform for Polykemi.
In 1997 did Hugo Jönsson retire as managing director and gave the responsibility for the daily operations to his sons Ola and Lars and took himself the roll as chairman of the board in the Polykemi which is the largest private employer in Ystad and in the southeast of Scania (Skåne).Outside of the work at Polykemi did Hugo Jönsson also involve himself in the local politics and was for three years Chairman for the Ystad Harbour, where he managed to convince the Polish ferry line operating the “Polonia” to choose Ystad as its Swedish harbor.
Hugo Jönsson was intensely fond of non-profit sports and in particularly Ystad IF team handball. Hugo Jönsson was the person who transformed YIF into the major club of today and was behind the club’s first Swedish Championship in 1976 and many other great achievements.
Being the inventor of the “Swiss original army knife” the family company Victorinox is one of the most known trade marks in the world. In the new hunting knife name the Hunter Pro a major focus has been the material choices based on the philosophy that only the best is good enough and for the handle a material from Polykemi POLYfill PP TOUCH 44925R3 was chosen!
