  1. Core/carrier - seating surface for Håg “H04 and H05 Communication” visitor chairs.


    A commonly used material for this kind of application is PA6 with 30% glass fibres. The reason is ao that the material is to be strong and stiff and be able to fix the surface fabric onto. When we could offer a material with similar mechanical properties with a lower weight – working well both during assembly and dismounting (easy to recycle) – a fact fitting nicely into Hågs environmental profile, finally with an interesting price picture – they decided to change to a material within our POLYfill HC family. › Read more

  1. Shafts for snow shovels.


    Our end customer Fiskars had planned to start purchasing our material for a composite shaft in one of their snow shovels next year, but due to the harsh winter, having resulted in bigger sales than anticipated -and thus Profilspecialisten – being to extruding company producing the shaft needed the material already now.
    It is not the “typical order” that we have received. This case is a material for extrusion of the composite handles and its good feeling to being able to start up deliveries already this year instead of the original plan – summer 2011. › Read more

  1. Cover for side-impact airbags


    The world's first side-impact airbag was introduced by Autoliv in 1994, in cooperation with Volvo.
    Side-impact collisions account for a quarter of all injuries to car occupants, but they account for more than one third of the serious and fatal injuries. One major reason is that the side of the vehicle is a thin crumple zone and the space between the occupant and the side of the vehicle is small.
    According to data from real crashes in the U.S., side airbags that include head protection are reducing deaths by about 45% among drivers of passenger cars struck on the near side, i.e. the side closest to the occupant. The thorax bag is inflated within 12 thousands of a second; four times faster than a frontal airbag. › Read more

  1. Holdon Clips


    "Eyelets/grommets”. The usage of eyelets/grommets is the traditional method to provide fixation points on textiles/nonwoven etc. Eyelets in traditional construction (riveted in metal) gives a strong impression but is often a false sense of security. The eyelet is not stronger than the fabric it is “holding on to” – the same way as a chain is never stronger than its weakest link. As metal eyelets have a small surface it calls for a strong material and most often this is done by folding the fabric. This production process is both expensive and time consuming. Laboratory tests has also shown that when moisture enter the fabric, it is weakened by rot. The result is a known as well as unwanted fact for all users – the eyelets become loose and the fabric gets torn – especially in windy conditions.
    HOLDON® replaces the eyelets totally! Instead of mounting eyelets in holes – clearly weakening the fabric, the clip is mounted directly onto the material. The surface area is considerably bigger compared to the traditional method. On an eyelet mounted in a hole the clamping force is never bigger that what is obtained during mounting, but when using the HOLDON® the clamping force increases with the tractive force! The harder you pull – the stronger the HOLDON® holds on to the fabric. › Read more

In addition to normal demands for impact resistance, stiffness and heat resistance, an additional vital parameter is the fact that the material also has to be hydrolysis/”steam resistant” meaning that it has to withstand water steam/cooling liquid in high temperatures and pressures.

  1. Tachographs for buses and trucks.


    The tachographs measuring ao distance and speed is an integrated part of the dash board in modern buses and trucks of today. This means that the material demands are fully comparable to other interior parts for automotive applications. One example is the fact the front of the tachograph is an ”snap on” function and this means that the dimensional stability in different temperatures is important. A loosening front creating bad noise would be highly disturbing… Also having a low warpage is important when producing a frame type part like this.
    Good processing properties in combination with a scratch and impact resistance results in a good looking and durable product. The transparent display window is ultra sonic welded in place.

    When Garo AB developed their G-box they did exactly like we do at Polykemi, they listened carefully to the demands set by their customers.
    The result was a totally customer adapted product. The combination box offers a kit of modules with infinite possibilities of combinations. This fact of course put quite high demands of the colour accuracy of parts produced of for instance ABS and PA6 in same colour tone. The Swedish national sealing class is IP44 but can be increased to IP65 by using parts with integrated TPE sealing.
    Garo promises delivery of a customer adapted G-box within 48 hours and this of course set tough demands on Garos suppliers as well. › Read more

    Synthetic ice able skating activities -outdoors and indoors regardless of climate, weather or temperature. Is sold to end customers under the trade name SCAN-ice ®. Wherever installed it has puzzled the skaters by its low friction, really resembling skating on natural ice as well as the fact that even the sound of the skate gliding on the surface – is a bit like the sound of natural ice. The SCAN-ice ® plates are made in a highly special HDPE based compound with a smart connection system that simplifies the mounting. Axjo Plastic AB Sweden

  1. Environmentally friendly waterless toilets


    For the container a high gloss material withstanding urine was desired and thus the POLYfill PP HBK1501515 developed and selected. The glossy surface is obtained by a combination of the special features of the compound and a highly polished mould.
    For some parts exposed for mechanical stress, an impact modified PA66 with reinforcement was the solution and for other parts where the main demand was a low warpage - a mineral and impact modified PA66 was selected.(SCANAMID 66 PA66 A321E Q30).
    For an externally placed grill being exposed to UV-light logically a UV-resistant material was selected (POLYasa 1614F.)
    Since there is an electric-fan mounted in some of the toilets – there was also a demand for a flame retardant material and thus a POLYabs V0E was selected for a fan-housing. The POLYabs V0E is a flame retardant grade containing brome but as it complies with demand from RoHS – Restriction of Hazardous Substances – 2002/95/EC it was acceptable. › Read more

    In certain cases the size of the letters / information given, makes it difficult to read…
    That is the background and reason of the invention and development of the magnifying glass for shopping carts called “EIWAL” done by Mr Heinz Münge in cooperation with the Swiss injection moulder Edwin Biro Bishof A.G. and us at Polykemi.
    Now everybody with limited eyesight – senior citizens, diabetics and with allergies can see and read the information on the package when going to the grocery store.
    As an example COOP Switzerland has recently ordered 120.000 magnifying glasses for their shopping carts.
